The Department was founded in 1990 as a Department of Computer Science, it admitted its first students in 1993, and has been offering an organized Postgraduate Course since 1998. Over these years, the Department has grown to become one of Greece’s top Departments for Computer Science, featuring cutting-edge teaching and research facilities, a Study Programme designed in accordance with international standards, and its constant participation in national and European R&D projects. In June 2013, the Department was renamed the Department of Computer Science and Engineering, with 5 years of study (OGG A 137/2013).
Students of the Department of Computer Science and Engineering learn to combine theory and practice, use abstract thinking, apply methodology and techniques from different scientific fields and value quality design. Due to the rapid development of computer science, students learn to adapt to changes and the constant need of acquiring new knowledge, while becoming familiarized with the creation of new knowledge by participating in research.
In view of all the above, the Department of Computer Science and Engineering offers Undergraduate and Postgraduate Courses to students, in order to provide them with general principles and help them understand and master new technologies, tools and systems in the future.
The Undergraduate Courses of the Department of Computer Science and Engineering last 10 semesters. The modules we offer cover the entire range of all necessary knowledge. Modules are divided into Compulsory and Elective. Furthermore, students at the 10th semester of their study must write a thesis, supervised by a Department faculty member.
