Research carried out at the University of Ioannina includes all fields and topics of expertise that are covered by the current University Departments and Schools.
Funded research activities are coordinated by the University’s Research Committee and managed by the Special Research Fund Secretariat. Funded research includes basic and applied research in Technology, Natural and Health Sciences, Archaeology Projects and Excavations, Literature and Linguistic Projects, Economics and Sociology Projects, and Research in Educational Methods.
Great emphasis is placed on interdisciplinary applied research projects with particular interest in the Greek industry, economy and society. Research is mostly financed by Community Support Frameworks (1st, 2nd, 3rd CSF, NSRF 2007-2013), through various Operational Programmes, by Territorial Cooperation Programmes, the European Commission (FP6, FP7, etc.) and the private sector.
Many research projects are carried out as part of transnational cooperations between our University’s groups and relevant groups from Institutions, corporations and organizations in other EU or non-EU countries.
