Press Release: 10th International Summer University “Greek language, culture, and mass media”
The University of Ioannina was established sixty years ago and its foundations were laid following a voiced demand by the Epirots. This came as a natural continuance of the region’s tradition in Letters and Arts, and over this period, the dynamic development of the University has continued to stimulate its diverse cultural settings and respond to the needs of the region and the country.
Over the years, the University has successfully reached its full growth potential by working tirelessly to become a leading public University that has gained national and international recognition, in research and education. Its mission is to create and transfer knowledge without discrimination or exclusion, foster the growth of sciences and arts, and promote cultural pluralism and diversity.
The University complies with the principles of academic freedom in research and teaching, respects scientific ethos, and adheres to the concept of democracy in the public domain. It embraces its role in forming responsible citizens, who in turn, may transform society and shape a better future, with their ethics, education, and professionalism.
Having reached a critical juncture in the Higher Education sector, both nationally and globally, the Rectorate Authorities, the Senate, and the Governing Council will best navigate these challenges with the vision of an esteemed University, whose ethical academic system can identify mechanisms to benefit science and serve the community.
The University of Ioannina has defined the following priorities:
